Life support water is essential to good health and well being. Wouldn't you like to have the assurance and peace of mind in knowing your family can start using the cleanest and most wholesome water available for everyone?
Elements Affecting Your Water Quality
(1) Hardness
- Dissolved calcium & magnesium carbonates, measured in grains per gallon:
0 to 1 grains per gallon - soft water
1 to 3 1/2 grains per gallon - slightly hard water
3 1/2 to 7 grains per gallon - moderately hard water
7 to 10 1/4 grains per gallon - hard water
over 10 1/4 grains per gallon - very hard water
- Combines with soap to form an insoluble curd.
- Precipitates out of the water to form lime deposits in pipes, fixtures & appliances.
(2) Iron
- An element often found in ground water (in the form of ferrous iron)• Is measured in concentrations, usually ranging from 0 to 10 ppm (mg/l).
- Above 0.3 ppm/mg/l objectionable taste and staining will occur. (U.S. Public Health Service Drinking Water Standards.)
(3) pH (potential of Hydrogen)
- Used to indicate acidity or alkalinity of the water
- Corrosive activity can begin at 6.9 pH
- 6.0 pH is 10 times as corrosive as a 7.0 pH
- 5.0 pH is 100 times as corrosive as a 7.0 pH
- Bluish staining & corrosion are caused by a low pH
(4) Sulfur / Other
- A colorless gas which gives off an offensive "rotten egg" odor.
- Hydrogen sulfide promotes corrosion due to its activity as a weak acid.
- Hydrogen sulfide in the air causes silver to tarnish in a matter of seconds.
- Chlorine causes offensive taste and odor.
